Guided tours: Sat + Sun, 16:00

On November 19, 2014 the International Highrise Award was bestowed by the City of Frankfurt\Main in cooperation with DAM and DekaBank for the sixth time in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt, thus celebrating its 10th anniversary. Among 800 high-rise buildings the DAM nominated 26 outstanding projects in 17 countries, which were built all over the world in the last two years. An international jury of architects, real estate experts and civil engineers selected five finalists including the winner: the residential highrises Bosco Verticale in Milan/Italy. The project convinced the jury at several levels: The two greened residential highrises are based on simple rectangular footprints and differ in height, the one being 19, the other 27 stories high (80 and 112 meters respectively). Each of the 113 apartments in total is equipped with at least one balcony, which resembles a small garden or a small forest: several hundred trees, along with bushes and shrubs cover the facade. The plants ensure a natural climate in the apartments and provide out-standing residential conditions. The pioneering work necessary to green a highrise façade in Europe was undertaken by Boeri Studio along with agronomist landscape consultants Laura Gatti and Emanuela Borio.

All the buildings nominated are being showcased in the BEST HIGHRISES 2014\15 exhibition. The winning highrises and the four finalists will be documented in detail in the exhibition by means of models, large photos, drawings, texts and films.
