THE ARCHITECTURAL MODEL – Tool, Fetish, Small Utopia

25 May 2012 – 16 September 2012
Opening: 24 May 2012, 19:00

The exhibition "The Architectural Model – Tool, Fetish, Small Utopia" at the DAM is a worldwide first. Never before has there been an exhibition exploring the use of architectural models in the 20th\21st century. This is a first attempt to systematically study the opportunities afforded by models in terms of experimenting, impressing the observer and producing small-scale artworks. With a view to their function as a tool, fetish or small utopia, models are acknowledged as a form of representation and design.
The roughly 200 exhibits are from the DAM collection as well as numerous lenders, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the FRAC Centre Orléans, the Deutsches Museum München and important contemporary architects such as Axel Schultes, Berlin, and Christian Kerez, Zurich.
Among the highlights are models by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frei Otto, Rem Koolhaas, Peter Eisenman and Peter Zumthor.
