“Peter Cachola Schmal has promoted the Deutsches Architekturmuseum to the premier league of Europe’s architectural museums” according to Prof. Dr. Felix Semmelroth, head of Frankfurt’s Cultural Department. “I am delighted that his contract has been extended,” he continues. “Peter Cachola Schmal is internationally very well connected and has created a forum for young contemporary architecture from all over the world, yet he never loses sight of developments in Frankfurt’s architectural practices, whose work is given similarly comprehensive exposure. The high quality and international slant of the exhibitions originating from the DAM ensures that they are often shown in other cities. One recent example is the exhibition ‘M8 IN CHINA’ - currently to be seen in Berlin until 21st February - which was co-curated by Peter Cachola Schmal and a Chinese colleague, on the occasion of China’s role as Guest of Honour at this year’s Book Fair,” Semmelroth concluded. On 18th December, Frankfurt’s municipal authority agreed to extend Peter Cachola Schmal’s contract as Director of the Deutsches Architekturmuseum for a further five years until 31st March 2016. Peter Cachola Schmal took over the position from Prof. Ingeborg Flagge on 1st April 2006. His contract, which includes an optional extension, would otherwise have terminated on 31st March 2011.
